Food for skin
Cosmetics is the art that maintains skin freshness: an art dating back thousands of years, the art which responds to the needs of men and women to nourish their skin whatever their age and their occupation. The most obvious and interesting of skin’s macroscopic characteristics is its colour, which varies according to ethnicity, age and gender. Its colour depends mainly on the presence of 3 different pigments: melanin, haemoglobin and carotene. According to the amount of melanin present, there are 6 different phototypes.
The main functions of skin are two-fold:
protection
(against effects
and attacks
from the environment)
retention
(of substances that need
to be retained
and not lost externally)
